31Then the Jews, because it was 1the day of preparation, so that 2the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a 3highday ), askedPilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be takenaway.
32
So the soldierscame, and broke the legs of the firstman and of the other who was 4crucified with Him;
33
but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was alreadydead, they did not break His legs.
34
But one of the soldierspierced His side with a spear, and immediately5blood and watercame out.
35
And he who has seen has 6testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.
36
For thesethingscame to pass7to fulfill the Scripture, "8NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN."
37
And againanotherScripturesays, "9THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED."
38
10AfterthesethingsJoseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a 11secret one for 12fear of the Jews, askedPilate that he might takeaway the body of Jesus; and Pilategrantedpermission. So he came and tookaway His body.
39
13Nicodemus, who had firstcome to Him by night, alsocame, 14bringing a mixture of 15myrrh and aloes, about a 16hundredpounds weight.
40
So they took the body of Jesus and 17bound it in 18linenwrappings with the spices, as is the burialcustom of the Jews.
41
Now in the placewhere He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a 19newtomb20in whichnoone had yetbeenlaid.
42
Thereforebecause of the Jewishday of 21preparation, since the tomb was 22nearby, they laidJesusthere.
