Deuteronomy 29:7 Meaning and Commentary

Deuteronomy 29:7

And when ye came unto this place
The borders of Moab, the wilderness before it, to which joined the plains they were now in; see ( Numbers 21:13 Numbers 21:20 ) ( Deuteronomy 2:26 ) ;

Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, came out against us unto
battle;
not together, but one after the other, and that very quickly; as soon almost as they had fought with the one, and conquered him, the other came out against them:

and we smote them;
killed them and their armies, and the inhabitants of their countries; the history of which see in ( Numbers 21:23-35 ) .

Deuteronomy 29:7 In-Context

5 I led you 40 years in the wilderness; your clothes and the sandals on your feet did not wear out;
6 you did not eat bread or drink wine or beer-so that you might know that I am the Lord your God.
7 When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out against us in battle, but we defeated them.
8 We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.
9 Therefore, observe the words of this covenant and follow them, so that you will succeed in everything you do.
