Abate

Abate

To diminish; lessen.

And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were ABATED. And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. ( Genesis 8:3-4 )

Used six times in Old Testament for five different Hebrew words, signifying "to diminish," "reduce," "assuage"; of the Flood (Genesis 8:8); of strength (Deuteronomy 34:7); of pecuniary value (Leviticus 27:18); of wrath (Judges 8:3); of fire (Numbers 11:2).
