Acts 20:30

30 And from among you yourselves men will arise, speaking {perversions of the truth} in order to draw away the disciples after them.

Acts 20:30 Meaning and Commentary

Acts 20:30

Also of your own selves shall men arise
Not only false teachers from abroad should come and enter among them, but some would spring up out of their own communities, such as had been admitted members of them, and of whom they had hoped well; such were Hymenseus, Philetus, Alexander, Hertoogenes, and Phygellus;

speaking perverse things;
concerning God, and Christ, and the Gospel; distorted things, wresting the Scriptures to their own destruction, and that of others; things that are disagreeable to the word of God, and pernicious to the souls of men:

to draw away disciples after them;
to rend away members from the churches, make schisms and divisions, form parties, set themselves at the head of them, and establish new sects, called after their own names; see ( 1 John 2:19 ) ( 1 Timothy 5:19 ) .

Acts 20:30 In-Context

28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock among which the Holy Spirit has appointed you [as] overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he obtained through the blood of his own [Son].
29 I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 And from among you yourselves men will arise, speaking {perversions of the truth} in order to draw away the disciples after them.
31 Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day [for] three years I did not stop warning each one [of you] with tears.
32 "And now I entrust you to God and to the message of his grace, which is able to build [you] up and to give [you] the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
