26 The four chief gatekeepers, all Levites, were trusted officials, for they were responsible for the rooms and treasuries at the house of God.

For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set
office
The four chief porters who were over all the two hundred and twelve, and had one over them, ( 1 Chronicles 9:17 ) , these were never changed, nor went into the country villages; but were always upon the spot, and in their office, superintending the rest:

and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God;
see ( 1 Chronicles 26:20 ) .

24 The gatekeepers were stationed on all four sides—east, west, north, and south.
25 Their relatives in the villages came regularly to share their duties for seven-day periods.
26 The four chief gatekeepers, all Levites, were trusted officials, for they were responsible for the rooms and treasuries at the house of God.
27 They would spend the night around the house of God, since it was their duty to guard it and to open the gates every morning.
28 Some of the gatekeepers were assigned to care for the various articles used in worship. They checked them in and out to avoid any loss.
