1 Samuel 8:13

And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries
Such as deal in spices, and mix them, and make them up in various forms very agreeable to the taste. Men are commonly in our countries and times employed in such arts, but it seems this was the business of women in those times and places. Some versions ^F4 render it "unguentariae", makers or sellers of ointments, and such there were in some nations ^F5, such was Lydia in Juvenal ^F6;

and to be cooks;
to dress all sorts of food, especially what were boiled, as the word signifies: and to be bakers; to make and bake bread, which though with us is the work of men, yet in the eastern countries was usually done by women; (See Gill on Leviticus 26:26).

11 —Esta es la manera en que un rey gobernará sobre ustedes —les dijo—. El rey reclutará en el ejército a los hijos de ustedes y los asignará a los carros de guerra y a sus conductores, y los hará correr delante de sus carros.

12 Algunos serán generales y capitanes del ejército,
otros serán obligados a arar y a cosechar los cultivos del rey, y otros harán las armas y el equipo para los carros de guerra.

13 El rey tomará a las hijas de ustedes y las obligará a cocinar, a hornear y a hacer perfumes para él.

14 Les quitará a ustedes lo mejor de sus campos, viñedos y huertos de olivos, y se los dará a sus oficiales.

15 Tomará una décima parte de su grano y de sus cosechas de uvas y la repartirá entre sus oficiales y miembros de la corte.
