2 Crónicas 11

1 Profecía de Semaías
Cuando Roboam llegó a Jerusalén, movilizó a los hombres de Judá y de Benjamín —ciento ochenta mil guerreros selectos— para pelear contra Israel y recuperar el reino.

2 Ahora bien, el Señor
le dijo a Semaías, hombre de Dios:

3 «Diles a Roboam, hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas de Judá y de Benjamín:

4 “Esto dice el Señor
: ‘No peleen contra sus parientes. ¡Regrese cada uno a su casa, porque lo que ha sucedido es obra mía!’”». Entonces ellos obedecieron el mensaje del Señor
y no pelearon contra Jeroboam.

5 Roboam fortifica Judá
Roboam permaneció en Jerusalén y fortificó varias ciudades para la defensa de Judá.

6 Fortificó Belén, Etam, Tecoa,

7 Bet-sur, Soco, Adulam,

8 Gat, Maresa, Zif,

9 Adoraim, Laquis, Azeca,

10 Zora, Ajalón y Hebrón. Estas fueron las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y de Benjamín.

11 Roboam reforzó sus defensas y estableció comandantes en ellas, y almacenó provisiones de alimento, aceite de oliva y vino.

12 También, como medida de seguridad adicional, puso escudos y lanzas en esas ciudades. Así que solo Judá y Benjamín quedaron bajo su control.

13 Todos los sacerdotes y levitas que vivían en las tribus del norte de Israel se aliaron con Roboam.

14 Los levitas incluso abandonaron sus pastizales y sus propiedades y se trasladaron a Judá y a Jerusalén, porque Jeroboam y sus hijos no les permitían servir al Señor
como sacerdotes.

15 Jeroboam nombró a sus propios sacerdotes para servir en los santuarios paganos, donde rindieron culto a ídolos con forma de cabra y de becerro que él había hecho.

16 De todas las tribus de Israel, los que querían adorar de corazón al Señor

18 Familia de Roboam
Roboam se casó con su prima Mahalat, hija de Jerimot, quien era hijo de David y Abihail, hija de Eliab, hijo de Isaí.

19 Mahalat tuvo tres hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Zaham.

20 Tiempo después, Roboam se casó con otra prima, Maaca, hija de Absalón. Maaca dio a luz a Abías, Atai, Ziza y Selomit.

21 Roboam amó a Maaca más que a cualquiera de sus otras esposas y concubinas. En total, tuvo dieciocho esposas y sesenta concubinas que le dieron veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

22 Roboam nombró líder entre los príncipes a Abías, hijo de Maaca, y así puso en claro que él sería el próximo rey.

23 Roboam actuó sabiamente dándoles a sus demás hijos responsabilidades y estableciendo a algunos en las ciudades fortificadas por todo Judá y Benjamín. Les dio abundantes provisiones y encontró muchas esposas para ellos.

Chapter 11

Rehoboam forbidden to war against Israel. (1-12) The priests and Levites find refuge in Judah. (13-23)

Verses 1-12 A few good words might have prevented the rebellion of Rehoboam's subjects; but all the force of his kingdom cannot bring them back. And it is in vain to contend with the purpose of God, when it is made known to us. Even those who are destitute of true faith, will at times pay some regard to the word of God, and be kept by it from wrong actions, to which they are prone by nature.

Verses 13-23 When the priests and Levites came to Jerusalem, the devout, pious Israelites followed them. Such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel, left the inheritance of their fathers, and went to Jerusalem, that they might have free access to the altar of God, and be out of the temptation to worship the calves. That is best for us, which is best for our souls; in all our choices, religious advantages must be sought before all outward conveniences. Where God's faithful priests are, his faithful people should be. And when it has been proved that we are willing to renounce our worldly interests, so far as we are called to do so for the sake of Christ and his gospel, we have good evidence that we are truly his disciples. And it is the interest of a nation to protect religion and religious people.
