Shemot 30:35

35 And thou shalt make it a compound of spice, the art of a perfumer, mixed thoroughly together, tahor and kodesh;

Shemot 30:35 Meaning and Commentary

Exodus 30:35

And thou shalt make it a perfume
By mixing the above spices together:

a confection after the art of the apothecary;
in the manner they beat, compound, and mix several ingredients together:

tempered together;
or "salted" F12, with salt of Sodom, as Aben Ezra interprets it; and Maimonides F13 says, there was a fourth part of a kab of salt of Sodom put into it: and whether this incense or perfume respects the intercession of Christ or the prayers of his people, they are both savoury and acceptable to God, the latter on account of the former; in all sacrifices salt was used, and every spiritual sacrifice of ours should be seasoned with grace:

pure and holy;
such should be the prayers of the saints, and such most certainly is the mediation of Christ, which is his much incense.

Shemot 30:35 In-Context

33 Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a zar, shall even be cut off from his people.
34 And Hashem said unto Moshe, Take unto thee spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; these spices with pure frankincense; of each shall there be an equal weight;
35 And thou shalt make it a compound of spice, the art of a perfumer, mixed thoroughly together, tahor and kodesh;
36 And thou shalt beat some of it very small, and place it in front of HaEdut in the Ohel Mo’ed, where I will set a meeting with thee; it shall be unto you kodesh kodashim.
37 And as for the ketoret which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves according to the formulation thereof; it shall be unto thee kodesh for Hashem.
