7 "God, Please Help Me" Prayers to Put Your Trust in God's Strength

The first step for change is admitting you need help.
Many people reject asking for help. This might happen for several different reasons—pride, a family culture, being hurt in the past, and more. But everyone needs help at some point.
However, when dealing with God, the Bible continually teaches how we have no ability to change anything that matters on our own. Only God has the power to transform a situation, a person, a life, even an eternal future. In addition, we have forces arrayed against us. Evil spirits, a corrupt world, and our own self-absorption. We require God’s constant help against these things.
The Father has given us one powerful action and discipline to participate in his power to change: prayer. In his love, asking for God’s help shows courage, wisdom, and strength, not weakness. It reveals that we understand where our help really does come from. And he cares for us abundantly, working for our good.
Prayer is active, not passive. We give our lives to God and receive his guidance and help through intimate conversation and revelation. When we find ourselves in difficult situations, God desires for us to come to him and ask for his help.
Here are 7 prayers for situations where we say, “God, please help me.”

1. Prayer for God to Give Strength in Trials
We all deal with crises and issues, and when they come, we can feel overwhelmed and anxious. God invites us to come to him and find hope and strength. Isaiah 41:10 promises us, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” The Lord doesn’t promise to send us help through another; he declares his presence will be with us, as it always is. And with his presence we gain access to his strength and powerful right hand. He personally gets involved.
When we pray for strength in trials, we recognize our inability to help ourselves and ask God to carry us through, make us brave, and love when others would respond with hate or fear. God doesn’t promise to remove the struggle but to send his Spirit to work in us and with us to endure in faith. Let us pray and trust the one who is faithful in every circumstance.
Heavenly Father,
You are my strength and shield. When difficult situations and trials come against me and overwhelm me, I turn to you and rest in your promise, that you will be with me and help me. I believe your faithfulness and love will sustain and see me through. On my own, I don’t have the strength, but you are strong. Glorify yourself as you see me through this trial.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

2. Prayer for God to Grant Wisdom
Chaos enters our lives, throwing us into crisis, and in the resulting fear and worry, we don’t know what to do. And often, that lack of wisdom causes even more anxiety, even leading to no hope in the moment. In these times of uncertainty, when we need to make a decision, we need God’s wisdom. Thankfully, he promises he will give us wisdom and understanding. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5) Good news! His wisdom isn’t something we can earn. He gives it freely and generously. All we need to do is ask.
Praying for wisdom, we humble ourselves and admit we can’t see a good path. Further, we act by the truth. God knows all things and loves us. God gives grace to the humble, and he then shares the wisdom we need for our next steps. This wisdom isn’t just knowledge but understanding the right thing to do that pleases God and demonstrates love for everyone involved.
Heavenly Father,
I need your wisdom. I face choices and challenges I can’t face on my own. You promise to give me wisdom if I humble myself and ask, so I ask now. Please guide my thoughts, give me peace in your love, and help me see the best path forward in this situation. Let my choices reveal your truth and care for others, giving you glory.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

3. Prayer for God's Peace in the Storms of Life
During times of crisis, we experience anxiety, stress, and fear. The storms disrupt what calm we thought we had, and so we are tempted to “freak out.” Underlying this, we deeply desire peace, and thankfully, God offers it to us. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
Paul, the writer of Philippians, provides us with a process. We come to God in prayer, first thanking him for all he’s already done, for his character and love even in the middle of hard times. Now in his presence, God’s peace will guard our hearts in Christ. This peace isn’t an absence of conflict but a deep calm and assurance based on our confidence in God’s promises to care for us. The passage doesn’t promise an immediate end to the struggle but a supernatural peace through it.
Heavenly Father,
I bring my worries and concerns to you. You know every anxious thought I have. I cast my cares upon you, knowing you care, and I thank you for all you’ve already done: my salvation, your presence always with me, and your love and provision in my life. Fill me with your presence. Let your eternal peace guard my heart and mind through Christ. Thank you for a peace not dependent upon my situation.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

4. Prayer for Courage to Share the Good News
Salvation is a work of God, not of religion or our ability. As we share Christ with a broken world who needs him, we face resistance from our fears, from corrupt world systems, and from the Devil. We require God’s help to fulfill his mission for us.
After Peter and John declared the name of Jesus and encountered threats from religious leaders, the early church didn’t pray for safety or avoidance of conflict. Instead, they asked God for courage. “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.” (Acts 4:29)
This prayer asks God for supernatural bravery to speak the truth of the Gospel in love, even when we face resistance. This boldness isn’t about pride or feeling superior, not a physical force or aggression. God Spirit provides clarity and compassion. We get the right type of boldness from the Spirit, not our education, personality, or experience. Just as the early church spoke with courage with God’s help and love, we can, as well.
Heavenly Father,
I long to share your truth and love to the broken world and people around me. You see the resistance and fears I face when I act in obedience to speak the Good News. Just as the believers prayed in Acts 4:29, please give me this boldness. Fill me with your Spirit and give me courage to speak with compassion, so others will hear and not for myself.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

5. Prayer for Healing When it Feels Hopeless
Physical pain and sickness wears on us, and in extreme cases we can feel helpless. Prolonged illness distracts and even isolates us. God cares and sees our pain. Scripture reminds us how God is our healer. The prophet cries out, “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.” (Jeremiah 17:14) The Gospels, Acts, and the rest of the New Testament encourage us to come to God and ask for healing.
Praying for healing means giving our pain and suffering into God’s hands, knowing he will use it for our good and his glory. As the verse above says, the Lord is our praise. It isn’t a formula, however. We don’t come with demands or ritual but faith in his mercy, love, and timing. Healing might come instantly or in unexpected ways, but God always responds to the broken. In prayer, we trust God as the source of all life, surrendering to him. He restores hearts, minds, and bodies.
Heavenly Father,
You are healing, the God who heals. I come to you and ask for your mercy. Heal me, and I will be healed. Restore what is wrong in my body, my heart, and soul. I trust your power, love, and goodness. You know what I need and when I need it. Give me the faith to endure as I wait. Let my healing and life bring glory to your name.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

6. Prayer for God's Help When Facing Temptation
On this side of eternity, we suffer temptation. Our selfishness, the Devil, and the world tries to get us to disobey God. Part of the lie includes thinking we have no way out. But God promises we aren’t alone in it, and he will provide an escape. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
When we pray during temptation, we admit our need for God’s help and choose to submit to God instead of our own desires. We call on his faithfulness and strength rather than our own self-reliance. He will open our eyes to the way of escape and give us the power to act. In his presence, he reminds us of our identity in Christ, leading us in his righteousness.
Heavenly Father,
I face temptation and feel its call, but I know you won’t let it overwhelm me, especially beyond your power to resist and remain faithful. Just as Christ was tempted in every way and without sin, your Spirit will understand my weakness and empower me in the way forward to escape the temptation. Show me the way, and help me choose what honors you. Thank you that I’m not alone. Help me walk in the victory Jesus already won for me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

7. Prayer When You're Anxious about God's Provision
We have needs—food, shelter, sleep, and more. We naturally worry about these things, but God promises to be our provider. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us to request, “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11) God walks with us today, and as our good Father, he takes responsibility for our provision. He knows our needs, and he cares.
He invites us to bring our needs to him and then depend upon him for our spiritual and physical food. In prayer, we set aside our pride and self-reliance and trust the God who feeds the birds and clothes the fields (Matthew 6:26-30). Seeking first the Kingdom, God meets us today and provides for our basic needs in the moment. He’s not promising us material wealth but to meet our practical needs. All good things are a gift from God’s hand.
Heavenly Father,
You are a good Father giving good gifts. I come to you with open hands and a trusting heart. You know what I need even before I ask, and yet you tell me to ask. Give me today the sustenance I need to serve you and fulfill your Kingdom purpose in my life. Help me not worry about tomorrow but to rest in your love. You have cared for me in the past and will again. Thank you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
