Bible Verses About Pride

What Does the Bible Say About Pride

We all struggle with pride in life! Sadly, many of us do not realize the potential that waits for us if we just let go of our pride and move forward in God's plan. In fact, the Bible goes so far as to warn us that God hates the sin of pride and will discipline the proud! Proverbs 8:13 says, "To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech." Pride leads to a downfall, as highlighted in Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." Let us not see ourselves as "wise in our own eyes" but let us become humble and willing to learn from God and others!

Pride is not merely a personal flaw; it is a sin that separates us from God. James 4:6 reminds us, "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble." Pride can blind us to our own faults, make us resistant to correction, and create a false sense of self-sufficiency. It often leads to other sins, such as envy, anger, and dishonesty, as we strive to maintain an image of superiority.

The Bible offers numerous examples of the consequences of pride. King Nebuchadnezzar's story in Daniel 4 serves as a powerful illustration. His pride in his accomplishments led to his downfall and subsequent humbling by God. Conversely, Jesus exemplifies humility, teaching that "whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted" (Matthew 23:12).

Embracing humility allows us to align with God's will and experience His grace more fully. By letting go of pride, we open ourselves to growth, healing, and deeper relationships with God and others. Memorize these Bible verses about pride as you seek to cultivate a spirit of humility, acknowledging our need for God and remaining teachable and open to His guidance.

Many people who struggle with pride also struggle with greed. Study these Bible verses about greed to see how God's blessings pour out on those who are generous!
